The Last of Us Part I: David

"No such thing as luck. No, you see, I believe that everything happens for a reason.”
Creating David for The Last of Us Part I was a big collaborative effort.

I began working on the character when he was well underway. Henry Hsu was responsible for the jacket and pants sculpt and lowpoly. Patrick Switzer created the initial characterization for the head sculpt as well as blendshapes. Nick Rutlinh did final sculpting on the head, as well as first and second pass texturing for the head and costume, and an initial hair blockin. I was responsible for final textures on the entire character as well as final hair and beard. Rifle was created by the foreground team.
Taking responsibility for this character also required close collaboration with designer Henry Meyers at Naughty Dog to create extensive scripted damage for him including blood, finger splint, bite marks, procedural snow and more.
Art direction and guidance were provided by Darcy Korch and Care Michaud.
