“No hard feelings, right?”
Robert is another character who I had the great opportunity to create for The Last of Us Part I.
Having been the first full hero character that I was given ownership of on Part I, Robert is near and dear to my heart. Patrick Switzer was responsible for the initial characterization as well as blendshapes for the head. Final sculpt and textures were done by me. Working on this character allowed me to hone my own head texturing pipeline and perform plenty of experimentation to find the method that worked best for me. Texturing of a male character in the TLOU universe created a fun challenge to find ways to push weathering and imperfections without making him look too grizzled.
Another challenge was to maintain the baggy and well-worn look for his sweater. Achieving the correct type of folds and fit, as well as the right fabric detail took a good amount of trial and error. I also was responsible for all character damage states.
Art direction and guidance were provided by Darcy Korch and Care Michaud.
