The Last of Us Part I: Ellie Summer Costume

“To the edge of the universe and back. Endure and survive.”
Summer is the first of several costumes that I had the opportunity to make for Ellie in The Last of Us Part I.

When I arrived at PlayStation Studios in 2018, I had no clue what I'd be working on. To my amazement, I soon found out that my first few weeks would be spent working on Joel and Ellie's iconic summer costumes for The Last of Us Part II. My lead, Darcy Korch, was responsible for Ellie's well loved palm tree shirt, I created the longsleeve and we collaborated on the pants. Creating the shoes was particularly fun. Once The Last of Us Part II shipped, we revisited the iconic summer outfit to refine textures and shaders, and finalize what is seen in game. Head, hair and hands were done by Soa Lee.

When deciding on subjects for the model viewers, I proposed that we take some extra effort to recreate one of my favorite concepts from the original The Last of Us by Hyoung Taek Nam. With the help of Darcy Korch to get this idea approved for production, and the efforts of multiple departments, I believe something really special was created in the form of the Joel and Ellie Campfire model viewer scene.

It was truly an honor to contribute to a character who means so much to me.
